The observatory dome on its hill beneath the Milky Way

Live sky tour · 45 min · Ages 8 and up

The Long Night

Our astronomers take you through a single night under the dome, live. Watch the stars come out in the order your eyes would find them, follow the Moon and planets across the sky, and stay for the slow wheel of the Milky Way rising at midnight. Every performance runs on the real sky for that evening, so no two are the same.

The Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, photographed by Hubble

Fulldome film · 35 min · Ages 6 and up

Born of Stars

A fulldome journey into the Pillars of Creation and the Orion Nebula, where clouds of gas collapse into new suns, and out to the explosions that scatter carbon, oxygen and iron across the galaxy. Narrated by our research team and built from Hubble and James Webb observations.

Saturn and its rings, photographed by the Cassini spacecraft

Family · 30 min · All ages, best for 4 to 10

Small Worlds

Land on Mars, fly through the rings of Saturn and count the moons of Jupiter in a gentle, interactive show for families. A presenter answers questions under the dome, and every child goes home with a star chart for that night.

The Whirlpool Galaxy and its small companion, photographed by Hubble

Fulldome film · 40 min · Ages 12 and up

The Edge of Everything

A late fulldome film for older audiences about galaxies, dark matter and how we know the universe had a beginning. It follows light that left the Whirlpool Galaxy before there were people to see it, and ends at the faint glow left over from the Big Bang.

Before you come

Arrive early

Doors open twenty minutes before each show and close when the lights go down. We cannot let latecomers into the dark.

Little ones

Children under four go free on a grown-up’s lap. The dome is dark but never frightening, and you can step out at any time.

Access

Step-free from the car park to the dome. Four wheelchair spaces with companion seats sit beside the entrance, and assistance dogs are welcome.

Groups and schools

Private shows for groups of fifteen or more, with sessions written for each key stage. Write to us and we will plan it together.
